Fancy a night at the races this autumn without having to stand out in the cold?
The University of Worcester is hosting a race night next month to raise funds to build a state-of-the-art new arena for the City.
It will take place at the University of Worcester’s St John’s campus between 7pm and 11pm on Friday, November 26. Tickets are £15, which includes a fish and chip supper.
The Worcester Arena will be opening its doors to both University students and the general public in spring 2012, ahead of the Olympics.
It will enable the University to offer unique services to local sports clubs in the community as well as elite and professional athletes around the Midlands. With spacious, high-tech facilities it can look to develop more innovative schemes, whilst also providing a venue that will attract a great range of spectator events to the City.
Significantly, the Arena will drive the development for disability sport in the community through its high standard of disabled facilities, extensive range of disability sport equipment and training and coaching programmes.
The University needs to raise £12 million to build this exciting new facility and is hosting a number of fundraising events, including a Buy a Brick campaign.
Beth Heaney, Alumni Relations and Development Officer at the University, said: “The race night is a great way for people to have a fun night out while helping us to raise vital funds to develop this much-needed facility for Worcester.
“Races will be shown on a big screen and guests can place bets, just as they would if they were really there. Plus they also get a fish and chip supper to keep them going through the excitement.”
The event is being sponsored by Worcester Racecourse with individual races sponsored by other local firms.
